This guide explains how to use the I9 Card Reader during a transaction, including how to swipe cards and understand device light behavior. For full transaction steps within the PHC Go™ app, refer to the “Creating a Transaction with PHC Go” guide (coming soon).
Before You Begin
Make sure:
- Your mobile phone is already connected to the I9 by following the Quick Setup steps
- The blue indicator light is solid, which means Bluetooth has started normally and the I9 has successfully connected to a mobile device
Step 1: Confirm the Reader Is Connected
Before attempting a transaction, confirm that the I9 is paired to PHC Go™.
- A solid blue light means the I9 is connected to your mobile device
- A flashing blue light means Bluetooth has started normally, but the I9 is not connected to a mobile device
Step 2: Position the Card Correctly
- Hold the card with the front facing up
- Make sure the magnetic stripe is facing down
- Insert the card into the magstripe card slot
Step 3: Swipe the Card
Swipe the card horizontally with a smooth, uniform movement.
Step 4: Understanding the Transaction Indicator Lights
During a transaction:
- A solid yellow light is on means a transaction has started
- The yellow light turning off means the transaction is completed
- The yellow light turning off after a cancellation means the transaction was successfully cancelled
- Note that the red and green power lights turn off during a transaction
Important Compatibility Note
